Great stuff

As a non-fiction reader, I was a bit skeptical whether this book would really interest me considering the title and the genre. Anyway, thought I'd read something different this time since a friend of mine had put up a status on facebook suggesting us to read it. I immediately went on to amazon.com and ordered the book.
First of all, the description of the book on amazon mentions that it isn't a ordinary book of sexual content. Well, that is definitely an honest statement from a newbie author. The description also mentioned that the book isn't just a book, but a voice. Did I feel that way after reading the book? Yes I definitely did.
So the description perfectly summarised what's actually in the book without the author intending to just use the description option as a means to promote her book sales like a lot of new authors do.
I'd like to highlight a few good things about this book in the best way I possibly can.
Pros:-
1) Although the book had a lot of sexual content, the stories described in each chapter had a hint of love in it which was pretty impressive. So the book was not just plain sex, passion and lust but each story had elements of love in them expect for one story where a man has sex on the beach(Sorry, can't remember the name of the chapter).
2) Considering the situation in India at the moment where women are being raped and disrespected by men, the whole "women empowerment" thing has gripped the minds of a lot of women in this country developing a deep hatred towards all men in general simply ignoring the fact that there are a majority of good men out there. Each story in this book highlighted the bond between a man and a woman that is not just sexual and 'playful', but in a way 'friendly' as well. I did not come across any instance where the female characters in this book were given a higher priority than the male characters or vice-versa.
3) In a novel, punctuation marks are quite important and everything seemed in place. The statements and expressions were precise and easy to read.
4)The metaphors used in this book were erotic and hilarious at the same time. For example there was this line in the book, "Her breasts rose up like a high tide in the ocean and she drowned him in the tides of her breath". I almost died laughing when I read that. There are many such statements in the book which would seem to exaggerate the events in the story a bit but the exaggeration is definitely not a let down for me. As a matter of fact, it added to the beauty of the book furthermore.

Cons:-
1) There were a few things I did not like about this book. In the first story towards the end a man was killed for being ruthless to a woman when she was young(Cannot describe in detail since that would take away the suspense). Anyway, as a firm believer in the law of karma, I don't think any human being deserves to be killed no matter how big of a crime he/she commits as we all in some way or the other are responsible for everything we go through and in little ways we have all contributed to the misery of the world - if not in our actions, definitely in our thoughts. Maybe, I am being a little too judgemental, but I felt that the story could have taken a different turn rather than the man being punished for his vices considering the fact that this book is written by an author that lives in a country that has been taught by all the great masters about karma and reincarnation since ages with ample meditation techniques to prove it. Anyway, that's something I thought wasn't appropriate but a lot of readers who do not read much about spirituality and mysticism may easily ignore that.
2) Although a lot of stories were quite realistic, there were certain things that were far from reality. For example, reading the descriptions of a lot of places in the book, it didn't seem like I was reading about India. There was a story where the author describes a gothic female character entering a man's palace. Now a palace in India is something very rare. LOL. Or may be the author just has a deep insight into the future of our country. Also, most of the characters seemed pretty wealthy(or probably gave an impression of that based on the way it was written and described) which not many people in our country really are. I was expecting it to be a little more realistic highlighting travel by BEST buses, rickshaws or trains.
Anyway, the cons mentions were just things I felt would enhance the message and the beauty of the book furthermore in my point of view but I do not regret the fact that I purchased this book and I definitely did not feel it was a waste of time.
As a man, I appreciate the spirit of the author to come up with stuff like this in a country like India and I personally would suggest every Indian women reading this review to give this book a read as it is definitely one of those books that empowers women in a positive way without destroying the image of the opposite gender.

Excellent short stories, with great storylines. I liked 'Role Playing Went Wrong' the best. This book finds its place among few rare pieces of written work in English by Indian authors that contain interesting plots with depiction of sexual acts that make a entertaining read.

Good start but could have used more detail

This is an interesting book that gives an overview of how Italy fit into the make up of World War II. There are many books like this one that chart how World War II broke out and this brings an interesting perspective by looking at Italy instead of Germany. The book tracks Mussolini's progress from around 1933-41 and shows how the country was set on a course for war. The factors of what caused Italy to head to Germany from Britain could have been flushed out further and while this was well researched it suffered from a lack of detail. The bibliography is one of the most valuable pieces of this book. I would recommend this book to those wanting a brief overview of diplomacy during the world war II era.

For the fan's of RVD's Eagle Elite series

I only read one of the stories in this book and that was Rachel Van Dyken's because i love her Eagle Elite series and i'm so happy i read it. All i can say is wow i don't know how i feel right now i've always had a soft spot for Luca there was just something about him but this story just made me love him even more gah! But i always had a weird feeling about Frank and this story has made me not like him just a little bit more. I can not wait for the next book in the Eagle Elite series '
In the meantime i will read the other 2 stories in this bundle :)

I have only read the third story, Ice, by Elise Faber, and I loved it! It is engaging, fast-paced, and filled with Faber's typical sexy, snarky humor. I always appreciate that Ms. Faber's stories feel realistic and well-researched in terms of weapons, operation commands, etc. I don't feel like she's just making up her own terms for the stories she writes. I enjoyed Laila and Ryker's push-pull relationship and chemistry. I can only hope that Ice gets turned into a full novel. Ahem, Elise.

One Amazing Collection of Stories!

Enrapture by Rachel Van Dyken

If you are an Eagle Elite fan and can't wait for the next book, reading Enrapture in this book is worth it! Enrapture is told mostly in Joyce's (Trace's grandmother's) point of view, but we get to see inside of Nixon and Trace's head as well. We finally get the back story of Joyce, Frank, and Luca and learn more about the twins we were told about in Endure.

My heart broke for Joyce, Luca and Frank in this book. They all made tough decisions, and learned to live with them. But the love Joyce and Frank had was different than the all encompassing love we found that she had with Luca. Seeing how their story really plays into the Trace, Nixon, Chase story from previous books is interesting as well.

This is a definite must read and a reason to purchase Hurt. The Eagle Elite series is my favorite series EVER and getting any glimpses into the craziness that is part of these books is always a plus. I wanted to cry with Trace, and I was furious with Frank for how he let the information for Trace to find when he wasn't around. Seeing the whole gang together being themselves was refreshing, and nothing bad happened to them, which is always a plus!

Loved Enrapture!
The Initiation by Kristin Vayden

I really enjoyed this book and seeing a bit of a tie in to Endure by Rachel Van Dyken. In the initiation we meet Khan, Sofia, Daphne, and Jude.

Daphne has crushed on Khan for years since she met him through her brothers girlfriend Sofia. She never thought he'd give her the time of day so she went on with her life until Jude comes in whisking her away to help save him.

Throughout this book we learn Khan is the head of a family in the Russian mob and made some mistakes. We learn of his connection to Sergio and Andi as well. I loved how Khan was a tough guy but really just wanted to be happy and out of the craziness his life currently is.

Daphne and Khan are amazing together and it sucked that just when things started to get really good the story ended. I really hope to see more of these characters in the future as they are definitely interesting and the story was great!
Ice by Elise Faber

This is the first book of Elise Faber's that I've read and I will definitely be picking up the rest of the series when they release.

In ICE we meet Ryker and Laila, two super awesome KTS Spies on missions to help people in need. Ryker and Laila have a past, she was young, she fell hard, he ran. But now that they are working together again and a few years older, Ryker realizes his mistake but convincing Laila is much harder than he expected.

The missions their team goes on are intense, but the majority of this story focuses on them trying to stop a child sex slave/prostitution ring in San Francisco. In such a short amount of time so much happens and I was on pins and needles. When their mission goes belly up, and they are in a predicament they have to learn to work together to save themselves.

I really enjoyed the suspense in this book, but I really, really enjoyed the chemistry and banter between Laila and Ryker. I adored these two and hope to see more of them in new books by Elise Faber.

If you like your family drama high and your sex scorching hot, please pick up the entire Finn Factor series.

The fourth book in the Finn Factor series brings us Jennifer "Little Finn" and her two hunka, hunka men!

I am such a fan of this series for many reason, one of which is the solid characters that the author brings to the pages. Jennifer could have so easily been turned into one of those female characters that becomes a doormat for the men in her life, but that doesn't happen. She is a strong woman who owns her sexuality and isn't afraid to ask for what she wants.

Now lets talk about the two men in Little Finn's life: Trick and Declan. The bad boy and the professor.

Trick is a man who is not going to be denied. He wants both Jennifer and Declan in his life, and he is not above a little sexual torment to get them both right where he wants them. Sweaty and naked.

Declan tries so hard to resist temptation. But when he lets go and takes what he wants, Jen and Trick better hold on for the ride.

Another reason this series is a must buy for me is the family dynamic. The way that Jennifer's siblings and cousins acted and reacted was so real and funny you couldn't help but forgive them. And while there are some shocking revelations in this installment, the family unit is stronger then ever.

Awesome Threesome

Author RG Alexander continues to blow my mind with each story I read in her Finn Factor series. Just when I think it can't get any better, she proves me wrong. The author did an amazing job with telling Jennifer Finn's story in Ravenous, showing readers how she has matured after all she's been through and becoming the woman both Trick and Declan can claim as theirs. Jen might be Little Finn of the family but she is a Finn through and through and has proven she is tougher than she looks. I really enjoyed those foreplay sex scenes between Jen and Trick which only whetted my appetite for more and throw in Declan in the mix and you have one helluva hot threesome. Declan really brought out the raw sexual energy whenever he was in the room with either one of them. I especially loved his relationship with Trick and the author had me fanning myself. I loved seeing the rest of the Finns again and learning more about their family history. I love this series so much and the author really knocked this one out of the park and left me ravenous for more.

I needed more

I really liked this book. I loved the storyline. I just wish there was more of THEIR story.There weren't many scenes of the three of them together, sexy scenes included. What there was, though. .Yum! We were told about their times together but didn't get to be there with them. That always leaves me feeling somewhat disappointed. I loved the inclusion of family, it wasn't overdone. I loved Trick snd Declan and their obvious love for each other. Their reunion scene, I felt, was rushed and missed a prime opportunity to give us more of their interactions. It could have been even more emotional if we had prior insight into how Declan andTrrick were feeling. All in all, I'll read more of the Finn stories. Curious, so far, is my absolute favorite. We got to know them so well and that's what I needed for Jennifer, Declan and Trick.

Catherine Dee trained in fine art before studying landscape architecture, and today practises both. She is author of Form and Fabric in Landscape Architecture: a visual introduction (Routledge 2001) and several articles on the relationship between design, drawing and art. GUI Design for Test and Measurement

As a long-time LabVIEW programmer, I know how easy it is to create rich, graphical user interfaces with LabVIEW. I also know how frustrating it is to have an end user sit down in front of my LabVIEW masterpiece and not have a clue of what to do. In his easy to read style, Dave explains effective user interface design and how to apply it to test and measurement.
I especially appreciated Ch. 6 "Graphic Design for Engineers 101 - A Crash Course in Layout and Design." The discussion on designing an effective layout and the provided templates are excellent.

You thought LabVIEW itself solved all your GUI problems...

As a long-time LabVIEW developer, one of the things I like about LabVIEW is how easy it is to whip up a sharp looking GUI. However, along with this easy-of-use comes a responsibility to develop a user-friendly GUI as well. Though the title of this book implies that it only addresses GUI design, there is a significant amount of time spent on software engineering, understanding users, graphic design and coding techniques. This book is a whopper at over 500 pages, and there is no skimping on discussion of any of these topics.

As a developer who is equally at home with computers and people, it is hard to remember that I am in the minority, and the majority of users of my software are likely to be technophobes. The first 5 chapters of this book address user expectations and how, in a deterministic manner, to come up with a GUI that will be friendly to the target users.

Chapter 6, as another reviewer mentioned, is a crash course in graphic design. Over 50 pages of "put this here", "choose these colors", and "use this font". A great reference.

Chapters 7-9 discuss the mechanics of how to make a good GUI. All the regulars are here: VI Server, Custom Menus, Queue and Event-driven architectures, and Property/Attribute Nodes. But there is some neat stuff I have not seen elsewhere, such as how to make pop-up menus, custom toolbar buttons and floating menus/toolbars with minimum hassle and overhead.

Chapter 10 is a guide to everything graphics. It covers different image formats (jpg, bmp, png, etc.), transparency, where to get "free" graphics, as well as a primer on Adobe Photoshop.

The rest of the book (chapters 11 & 12, plus appendix A) are use cases.

In the back of the book is a CD-ROM with most of the examples, plus a ton of great free stuff (e.g., custom buttons) and trial stuff (e.g., Adobe Photoshop).

Complaints: this book is getting a bit long in the tooth. LabVIEW 7 is out with user-defined events, and 8 will be out shortly with a whole new development paradigm. While much of this book remains relevent, some parts are in need of updating (property nodes have been out how long now???).

My other complaint is that this book looks like a pre-publication proof. Nearly every page has a major spelling or grammar error. It is as if no one could make it through the 500+ pages for a final proof before printing. As an example, from page 181: "At this point, it should be stressed that the visual hierarchy is your GUI panels should be governing by more than aesthetic considerations alone." (yes, this is an exact quote)

Very Useful for Creating Professional User Interface.

The book is well written and the examples are extremely useful. I have been programming in LabVIEW for 10 years and found the book to be very helpful for improving my programming techniques. My latest user interface is significantly improved over my previous efforts.

Good for Individual Use, not so much for a Tutor

I've been looking for a long time for a good Geometry book and this is as good as it gets.

There is a decent amount of problems with very well written explanations. The book teaches well and has very intellectual problems as well as busy work so that the concepts are really set in stone.

The only reason I give it a 4 star is because it isn't what I was looking for. I was hoping to find something with a larger set of problems. Since the book already teaches the concepts, I've found that when I teach my student, he already knows what is going on, making the class a lot faster and me fairly useless.

It's a good thing as a book, but as a tutor, I wish it was a little less informative and a little more quantitative. ;)

All in all its a great book. It makes the tutor a little less useful though.

I bought this book as a summer review for my soon to be 9th grader. The workbook was not helpful. It did not do a good job of explaining the concepts.
