Great for teaching sounds to hearing-impaired

This book, with accompanying cards, is a wonderful aid in teaching the articulation of consonant and vowel sounds of English. I teach ESL to a hearing-impaired student who must lip-read to understand me. This book helps me to teach proper pronunciation. I should note that the author is British, and a few of the vowel phonemes reflect this. However, the resourceful teacher can adapt them for use with American English.

An Awesome Guide to THE BOOK.

This Handbook is not only informative but also a reverent guide to HIS WORD. There are many devotionals for each and every book and like a prism, reflects many aspects of HIS WORD that even a devout student has probably not considered. For example, "Christ in the Grave Three Days and Three Nights" (p. 467) gives an interesting and reasoned suggestion for Christ having been crucified on Thursday -- supporting Christ's own words in a literal and exact prediction as opposed to simply omitting the 3 nights portion of the prediction when trying to uderstand the Crucifixion/Resurrection timetable. The introduction of this Handbook is titled "The Bible Palace" and approaches Our Father's Love Letter (the Holy Bible) with a delectable sample of its enticing morsels: "It is the Word of the living God and is (1) Indestructible (Matt 24:35); (2) Incorruptible (1 Pet 1:24-25); (3) Indispensable (Deut 8:3; Matt 4:4; Job 23:12); (4) Infallible (Matt 5:18); (5) Inexhaustible (Psalm 92:5) . . . God thought it, Christ wrought it, the Holy Spirit brought it, the devil fought it, but I got it." And I would recommend any student, lover of the Word, or honest seeker buy this book -- you won't be able to resist jumping in and swimming in this delicious, nourishing Milk of the Word. This is one of those books which is truly a bargain, especially since it reveals many not-so-obvious gems contained within the Pearl Beyond Price!

I've taught the Word of God for over thirty years, and have a large library with hundreds of books. I say this only to qualify the statement made in the title. If one was to own only one Bible handbook with which to study and teach the Scriptures, this is it.

From archaeology, to science, to seed thoughts for sermons, to customs, to statistics, to hundreds of outlines--this handbook is as inexhaustible as it is indispensable. It is so voluminous, it has several separate indexes (which sometimes are a bit confusing).

For any minister or teacher who wants many encyclopedia's worth of reference material in one single book, this is the book to beg for, borrow, or steal. Formally entitled "Boyd's Bible Handbook", this work will give the reader a lifetime of useful material--always--always--being careful to exalt Christ in all the Bible. (I spent 3 hours on just 'prayer' alone!)

The book is thoroughly researched (as of 1980), and references are fully cited. In short, this work is a masterpiece. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Michael Borden has a Master's Degree in Architecture from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. He comes from a family of builders, with over 25 years experience in building and/or designing custom residences in California and the Midwest. He is currently involved in Vastu building and design projects worldwide. Michael was drawn to the endeavor of creating this book for the purpose of promoting Vastu Veda and thereby educating designers, architects, builders and homeowners on the potential of a more comfortable, happy and successful life lived in harmoney through the principles of Vastu Veda.

Double Good News - an excellent book on vedic architecture

The bad news is that Mr. Borden's guru, the greatest expert on Vastu (Vedic architecture) passed away in 2011. The good news is double - not only do we have Michael Borden, one of Dr. Sthapati's prime students, available to us, but also Mr. Borden has also brought out an excellent book on Vastu.

Now, I must say that the greatest book on Vastu, at least in modern times, is Dr. Sthapati's "Building Architecture of Sthapatya Veda." However, at least to me, with my limited knowledge of Vastu, the best book is Mr. Borden's new release "Vastu Architecture: Design Theory & Application for Everyday Life."

Without a doubt, Dr. Sthapati's book is deeper, more philosophical and more complete, but I think that Mr. Borden's book is clearer, simpler, better organized and more to the point. Let me put this another way: If you are planning to build a Vastu building, buy Michael Borden's book. If you have any serious interest in Vastu, buy Michael Borden's book.

My wife Mara and I do live in a Vastu house, designed jointly by Mara and Mr. Borden. It is wonderful and has changed the course of my life in a positive direction. Mara and I have about 8 or 9 other books on Vastu. I enjoyed reading "Vastu Architecture" far more than any of the others (10 on a scale of 1 to 10). I learned more from reading his book than all of the other books put together - for example, did you know that a human being is a Vastu structure? Also, Michal Borden's book confirmed what I intuitively knew: that Vastu is a spirit. Each building has a consciousness (or soul) and that soul is either happy or not, depending on how the structure was built, the surroundings, and to what degree the construction process adhered to the ancient Laws of Sthapata Veda.

Everyone interested in Vastu in any way should read Michael Borden's book. Those who want to delve deeply into Vastu should also peruse Dr. Sthapati's volume.

Finally a really great book on Vaastu

There are only two living people who really know Vaastu Shastras in the Western world. Michael Borden is one of them. 99% of the books on the market, even ones written by Indians, are pure hogwash. They are peacemeal at most and filled with superstition unsupported by the ancient texts. Michael's book is fully supported by ancient Vaastu texts. His knowledge comes from a true Vaastu Guru (Shilpi Guru) - the only authentic one of our time - Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati. While Sthapati passed on this year, Michael is one of the two people in the west that understand this tradition. He is vice chancellor of The American University of Mayonic Science and Technology which teaches Vaastu in an authentic way under the guidence of Sthapati. [...].

Dr. Sthapati's book - Building Architecture of Sthapatya Veda is the King of vaastu books but is not as detailed as Michael's book. In Sthapati's book he cautions the reader to not attempt to build a vaastu house on their own - this is a very wise caution. While Michael's book is very detailed and accurate I urge people to employ him to help with the building process. Building a vaastu house is complicated and requires daily supervision until the walls are up and the roof is on - and windows and doors installed. It takes years to know how to properly design and supervise the building of a proper vaastu house - trying to do it on your own is not something one should undertake.

Michael Borden spent years going to India to learn this topic. He has years of design and building experience. He is not just talking about Vaastu - he practices it as a vaastu architect.

You will learn from this book that Vaastu has nothing to do with moving furniture, putting up yantras, buying little so-called correction devices or any such thing. Don't waste your money buying them. They won't correct faulty vaastu. Vaastu/vastu is nothing short of a rigorous form of architecture that creates buildings that bring well being to those who live in them. If you live in a house that you feel is not supporting you and you can't build a new house then build a back yoard vaastu cottage or temple cottage (small is fine). It will bring peace and well being to you).

If you have any interest in architecture or vaastu in general you will love this book. If you are looking for a quick fix you won't find it here but you will come to really understand Vaastu.How To Build A Backyard Vaastu Temple Cottage

Finally, the best Vastu book on the market

Michael Borden's "Vastu Architecture: Design Theory and Application for Everyday Life" is by far, the best, and perhaps the only, well informed in-depth analysis of traditional Vastu. Vastu means space and the shastras or scriptures affirm that the space we inhabit is fundamental to our welfare. This book offers honest and accurate information that the author, an architect that studied at the Southern Cal Institute of Architecture, learned from years of study with renowned Indian architect, and builder of temples, Ganapati Sthapati, perhaps the most famous contemporary master of Vastu (he has passed away).

Borden avoids the cliches and false premises promoted by Vastu novices or "Vastu experts" who just focus on making a profit, not unlike Feng Shui commercial experts, who divert philosophy from practice. This last premise is fundamental, in my opinion. The adaptation of these practices in the West has brought on aberrations that are merely commercial but do not bring the practitioner to a balanced lifestyle (in the case of Feng Shui), or to spiritual uplifment and material harmony, in the case of Vastu. Borden's book avoids easy promises and clears an immense amount of misinformation and superstition presented in many Vastu studies. He also makes the knowledge accessible to Westeners, whether they are familiar with Vedic culture or not.

Cengiz Gunes is the author of The Contemporary Kurdish National Movement in Turkey: From Protest to Resistance (London: Routledge, 2012). His main research interests are in identity and nationalism, peace and conflict studies and the international relations of the Middle East.

Welat Zeydanlioglu is the coordinator of the Kurdish Studies Network and the managing editor of the peer-reviewed journal Kurdish Studies. He has published several articles on the Kurdish question, state violence as well as on the politics of nation-building and modern Turkish and Kurdish history.

Silly in premise and execution

I chose this book because the idea of a temporary husband sounded interesting. Unfortunately, this book turned out to be silly. A stable woman from a flaky family is running a scam on a respectable aunt by pretending to have a husband, just because her wastrel brother claimed she was married. The aunt decides to meet the man and flies across the country, so Charity has to come up with an actual body. Never mind that she was raised by her aunt, yet didn't invite her to the "wedding", put her "husband" on the phone, or send a single photo to the woman, or even change her name. Charity phones a temp agency at random, and it just so happens that a wealthy and successful businessman, who has been trying to get her to join her business to his, answers. Ross, that workaholic, drops any sign of intelligence and decides to pose as the fake husband. Enter a host of unlikely secondary characters, each of whom is worse than the last, from the sister who lacks grounding in reality to a nudist who believes he's a reincarnation of Mozart. They all clutter a book which is short to begin with, and Charity's tolerance for a house full of parasites becomes annoying as well. The only thing Ross and Charity have in common is physical attraction. They certainly do not have good communication. There were too many moments when I wanted to shake one or both of them. Too many characters were unlikable, even despicable. I wound up skimming the heavy breathing scenes, which added nothing to the story. In fact, it appeared that this book's main purpose was to introduce many, many characters whose stories will be told later on in the series. I'm not sure they will be worth reading.

An ok read for the weekend.

This really seemed like two books pushed together as one. The first half and the second half didn't have the same feel or style at all. It went from funny and cute to weird and choppy. It was ok and I did finish it, but just barely.

Great read!

Ross takes on a job as Charity's husband with his own motives- convince her to join his business. But she doesn't want to because her restaurant is her identity. But he gets in too deep and falls in love with her, but he doesn't say the words and their lines cross. Without reassurance from Ross especially since she's pregnant, and his mother's constant reminder that she wasn't good enough, she does the only thing she knows how- she runs. This is another great read from Helen Conrad and I highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series
