A little pricey ... but totally worth it

At first I was put off by the price (any book that has to put a comma in the purchase price scares me a little, call me frugal). I reluctantly bought a copy; I was doubtful it would be worth the purchase price. Boy, was I shocked! By page 195 I was hooked, I could not put it down. Upon completion, I do have to admit to experiencing a little buyer's remorse, but I chalk that up to the usual low of "missing" a book once you finish it. I give it four stars, and the only reason I couldn't give it the full 5 was due to the book costing over three thousand dollars.

NOTE: I like hardcovers, but you may want to consider the paperback on this one and save yourself $3,815.

Waste of money and time

This book was a waste of my money and time. It is poorly written, lacks any concrete programming examples, and looks like it was typeset by someone new to wordprocessing.

very helpful and easy to understand

the book was very good for leaning more on GML. i wouldn't recommend it for people new to GML because it used basic terms you may needed to know. it provided lots of examples showing what exactly they do. also, this book is on functions like: for, and, while,ect. this isn't on stuff like how to use d3d_draw_block. i found the book useful and easy to use.

About the Author
Steven R. Pliszka, MD, is Dielmann Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he served as Chief of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from 1995-2015. Throughout his career, Dr. Pliszka has been involved in a wide range of administrative, research, clinical, and educational activities. His research focuses on attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and related disorders; he has been involved with numerous clinical trials of medications for ADHD and currently uses functional magnetic imaging to try to understand the mechanisms of action of ADHD treatments. He has also been involved in several projects to integrate mental health services into pediatric primary care. Dr. Pliszka maintains an active clinical practice and serves as the attending psychiatrist for two residential facilities for children with severe behavioral and emotional disorders.

From "Jinetero: A Cuban Romance"

On Saturday night, Juan takes him to a discotheque on the other side of the Malecón from his hotel. As he gets out of the cab, Donny is greeted by several teen-age girls vying for his favors. It's yet another establishment where the Cubans can't go in without a tourist on their arm.

Jineteras, says Juan gayly.

More than a few. More than two dozen, mostly girls, and so young. It makes Donny a little queasy to see these tricked-up teenagers on the make. And a few men, sexy boys who stare at him, all waiting outside the club for a tourist to take them inside.

In the club, they have a rum and coke. Donny comments on the scene outside. Juan laughs and says he is different from those jineteras.

They are there early and the club is half empty. Donny finds it a little depressing and primitive, all black paint and flashing lights and mirrors. When he goes to the men's room, he finds an L-shaped urinal lined with a back mirror from foot to waist-high. He would be able to see every dick taking a piss in this intimidating mirror; but fortunately there is just one man on the far side of the L. The man, a type of Cuban wolf so prevalent in Havana, watches in the mirror intently as Donny manages to piss. Is he a cop waiting for Donny to give one too many shakes to his wang? Or a hustler Donny could add to the mix for $20? Who can say.

Juan is proud of the discotheque in the manner of a third-world person who thinks his American visitor can only appreciate the newest technology. Donny conceals that he finds it dismal, and manages to move the evening in the direction of a walk home on the Malecón.

It is their final night together. They walk a little way and then sit on a shallow rock wall, looking across the ocean, north to America. Waves gently batter the rocks below the sea wall; a little way down, some black Cuban kids are jumping off rocks into the surf. The breeze is cool on their faces. Behind them blares the noise of the boulevard, the cars honking and pedestrians arguing.

About the Author
Professor Edward J. Moticka, is a full professor Immunology and Microbiology at the A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Mesa, AZ.
He has taught immunology to medical and graduate student for more than 40 years. Currently he is responsible for all the immunology didactic teaching for first and second year medical students at the School of Osteopathic Medicine.
He has been a member of the American Association of Immunologists since 1976, and an Adjunct Professor in the Biodesign Institute and the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University since 2005. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Moticka is an expert in the area of research management including research compliance issues relating to human and animal subjects protection and technology transfer
