Riachuelo consisted of many complex and improvised tactics and maneuvers; some have become controversial among the naval historians that analyze the battle.

William Eugene Warner, a practicing Modeling and Simulation professional, has been researching South American and Caribbean history of over 30 years. He makes a living managing and designing combat models for experimentation and training. He has published articles in Strategy and Tactics magazine, as well as books on the War of the triple alliance and Haitian history. William is currently designing war games that deal with various arcane South America military subjects. He lives in Norfolk, Virginia, with his wife.

Treasure trove

This book represents truly amazing scholorship on the part of Dr. Warner combined with some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a book on naval history. For those interested in the Paraguayan War (aka the War of the Triple Alliance or the Lopez War)this book is an invaluable addition to their library. However, this should not be thought of as a niche book, as the battle of Riachuelo was the largest battle ever between pre-ironclad steam ships. Since many of the ships on both sides were manufactured in Europe Dr. Warner's book provides a unique insight into an important transitional phase in the development of the world's navies.

A complete book about the Riachuelo Battle's ships. Will Warner mades an excelente work with this book. The informations inside the book are important for wargamers and researches. I published a game about Riachuelo's Battle and I got some clarifications about some ships. Recomended !

There were a few insignificant grammatical/ editing errors, and the color reproductions could have been of higher technical quality. The black and white graphics were excellent; the amount of technical details provided (especially regarding ships' armament) far exceeded my expectations.
