“It’s too late to die young now” is a book about a man’s life. Across the book, we follow George Kerry from his teenage years when he was pulling (sometimes mean) tricks on his friends and brothers, through his youth and married years. We see him getting in and out and relationships, sometimes acting petty, sometimes making good decisions until he finds the woman he falls in love with and they settle down.
Although George does show some scruples when it comes to relationships, he shows no such scruples when it comes to his finances. Across the book, he is on a permanent quest of expanding his wealth through legal or illegal means. Eventually, leading a double life is what alienates him from the people close to him and facing adversity in his life, he ends up on a path to forgiveness.
“It’s too late to die young now” is similar in some ways to James Salter’s “All that is”. Both books focus on a man’s life in post World War 2 America. Both men get into relationships, get out of them when they feel things are not working out, both men eventually find a woman that they settle down with, both books end with a person feeling betrayed. Overall, both books capture the individualistic life (even though George is married, he seldom tries to be alone and he rarely includes his wife in decisions) led by upper-class men in late last century America.

It's Too Late To Die Young Now takes a look back at the life of George Kerry who at seventy three is diagnosed with cancer and has many regrets in his life. Starting in his teenage years we go back through every event in George's life with a mixture of greed, romance, lust, and a lot of comedy.
From pulling pranks as a teenager, dating in the twenties, his marriage, his business greed and questionable practices, the loss of his parents, problems with his health and with his wife. The book covers George's lifetime to lead a reader to how he has ended up where he has.
It's Too Late to Die Young Now had me laughing out loud all throughout the book. The story flows well through George's humorous life keeping a reader engaged and laughing. Even in the tougher times or the times that George's character is in question there were moments of humor to lighten up the mood and make the story just fly by. You can't help but end up entranced and wondering just what will George do next.
Overall, a really good entertaining read that had me laughing throughout.

Humor Depth and Real! Pick up this one!

In Gary R Hope's book, It's Too Late to Die Young Now, there is laugh out loud humor and emotional depth. It's hard to believe it's not a true story because of its authentic feel. The main character, George Kerry, allows the reader to feel they aren't alone in their mistakes and struggles with life's decisions and with God. It's a book that pulls you in from the beginning and makes it hard to put down. It's a great read that has it all! I highly recommend it!
