About the Author
Natasha has been teaching Russian to foreigners for over 20 years, first in Ukraine and then in the USA. She has a Bachelor's in Linguistics and a Master's Degree. Natasha attended a number of teaching trainings, conferences and seminars. Before her career as an author Natasha was a head teacher and observed countless lessons, giving feedback to the teachers about how to improve the lesson, as well to the students on how to benefit the most from the program. Natasha watched many students struggle with learning Russian via complex textbooks that present a lot of material quickly and without allowing the student time to internalize the new information. She quickly started developing her own way of presenting the materials and realized that there is a very simple way to learn any language: just by dividing something complicated into simple pieces and mastering the language step-by-step. Her many years of work and experience culminated in a book series of her own - Russian Step by Step. These books are easy to follow and, at the same time, are teaching real Russian. In RSBS books students will find dialogues from everyday life, exercises to help master those dialogues, and texts to help in remembering them. The series has two branches: adult and children's books. The adult series is aimed to non-Russian speakers who want to learn it for any reason by themselves or with a teacher. Many hours of audio that comes with the course books allow the student to pick up the correct Russian pronunciation. The children's series is aimed to bilingual kids or kids who are heritage learners and their parents/grandparents want them to be able to not only understand but communicate in Russian. The books take into consideration the specifics of this audience and make sure the kids have fun while learning. - See more at: http://russianstepbystep.com/index/about_the_team_russian_step_by_step/0-79#sthash.H7DQBxkh.dpuf

Nice, neat, easy to follow
By Kate
I already know some Russian, but never had a chance to learn the cursive writing. Granted that we don't use it as much these days, I still found it hard when I was visiting Russia and did not know the handwriting. It felt like I did not know the language, so I decided that I am going to learn it and this is why I purchased this book.
I must say I quite like this book. It shows the parts that each letter consists of and the order you write those parts in. I discovered that I was writing some of them in a completely different order - it was so much easier once I learnt that. Also it has the diagonal lines, and the script is updated modern handwriting, not some antiquated one I saw in older textbooks. Looking forward to my trip to Russia next summer, with improved Russian and the knowledge of Russian handwriting - I will be able to do so much more there.
I also sent a birthday card and wrote in cursive to the teacher I had in Russia and she said it was perfect!

Good, but not for the price
By RavenCorbie
This should really be priced around $5. I could easily have gotten some paper and created it myself, and having the convenience of it all put together is nice, but not worth the current ~$13.00 price. It is very slender. That said, it is a GREAT resource for teaching Russian. Unlike Americans, who are moving towards eliminating cursive altogether, Russians use cursive exclusively when writing. Sure, you will be able to read street signs and many store and commercial signs, but no personal correspondence, if you only know block Cyrillic. It is hard to get students to practice cursive when it's not "needed" to learn grammar or vocabulary, so having a book like this with several pages of practice is very important, particularly if your textbook or workbook has little to no practice of cursive. It's doubly more important for self-studiers, since the New Penguin Russian Course is the most recommended textbook on this site and it doesn't even have a workbook or any comment/introduction of cursive (although it is a good book for learning the system and well worth the ratings for self-study).

Useful for learning how to write Russian
By Peakdancer
I am an adult learning Russian. This is the next step to reading and writing the handwritten Cyrillic alphabet. It is great for recognizing and practicing the letters, joining them together and forming words. It also helps with vocabulary. It reminds me of learning to write English as a child - which worked! I gave it five stars because it is exactly what I was looking for to make progress.
